The Abu Simbel temples or Nubian Monuments were part of a UNESCO relocation project following the construction of the High Dam and the submersion of low-lying areas in the 1960s. Originally carved out of the rock in the mountainside, this complex of temples is dedicated to “The Great” Pharaoh Ramsis II.
